DIVISION 1 GAMES

Alcohol Anonymous against The Boelewieten is, in my opinion a match between 2 of the main candidates for the title, and with that it can be considered a top clash of course. It seems that both Nathan and Jeroen felt the same, as already early in the season, they decided to play a grudge (AA) and a boost (TB). TB even fielded 105 NSL (!), but that only levelled out AA’s home advantage. AA was just a little better, but that was only because of TB’s red card, that cost them 6.12 EMP. However, if you do the math, you can see that with the 6.12 EMP added to TB’s EMP now, TB would have been slightly better indeed, but in that case it would not have been enough for a smother shot either, just like AA’s EMP surplus wasn’t enough now. So, since no penalties were awarded, and both teams played very defensive, there was only one outcome that was both logical and fair: 0-0. With a point each, I guess both Nathan and Jeroen will be happy not to have lost against a strong rival, but on the other hand they might be a little disappointed for losing 2 points nonetheless.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 6

Martijn may not have one of the strongest teams in the league with Druss Legends, but DL have the advantage that they play attacking, and on top of that, that they have one of the cleverest managers in the league. Which is why once again, we find DL leading the table. This week, DL play a home match against Adirondak Renegades, who in spite of not being all that lucky so far, have developed themselves into a midtable team, in their first season in div 1. In this match however, Don did not play his own usual strong tactics, but adjusted to what he thought his opponent would be playing. When that opponent is DL, you know that’s a safe bet, as it is almost always WP. The OFF that AR played this week was strong, and in fact, it might even have been strong enough to surprise DL, if it weren’t for the Grudge that Martijn played. In an effort to stay in the lead, Martijn picked this match to grudge, and it was a grudge well spent, as it made that DL won the game after all. Too bad for AR, but with that, the victory was fair, and makes that DL keep leading the table. But at least Don still has his grudges left.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 6

After the first 3 matches of the season, we find InterQuartile Rangers in that large midtable group, while Lisbon United is still on just 2 points. That means that in spite of losing only 1 of the first 3 games, LU is in the relegation zone, as draws just don’t get you that many points. Time to do something about that, is what Nuno must have thought, and he played a boost. Almost 100 NSL plus that boost had to do the trick. However, Nuno did not count on his players behaving bad, as the red card for DM Shepperson ruined all his plans. It cost LU a lot of EMP, and with that they still lost the match. Looking closer however, we can see that the red card meant a lost of near 7 EMP. That meanst that even without the red card, IQ still would have had just a little more EMP, even though Terry was obviously saving a couple of top players. Sure, in that case, the game might have ended in a draw (although with the penalty awarded to IQ, you cannot even be too sure either), but it still means that IQ, who already have a very good team, also seem to win the matches in which they rest their top players. That is one of those lines that suits a champion, so maybe, just maybe, IQ will be the team to watch this season? Well, at least they are one of ‘em!

Once again, Tottenford Heats is aiming for the cup this season! (Isn’t that a cliché??). I can think of no other explanation, as if Mark would want to go for the league, he would at least have paid a little attention. It would take no more than 2 minutes to check out other NoShaKi WC ’98 matches, and then you would have found that NW plays WP. Of course, Mark does know that you should never ever play ZD against WP. Still, he did. That made NW of course a lot stronger than they might have thought when traveling to Stubborn Park. And in the end, it also resulted in a 2-0 victory for NW. In fact, with 2 chances on each side, TH even might have got away with this carelessness, but in this case, the difference in GK NSL made another difference, and with that, the victory for NW was fair. With this win, and the 3 points of course that go with it, NW pass TH on the table. But, as already stated, Mark will probably not care that much…..

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 6

FC Inferno and Point of Napier are (with 0 resp. 1 point) the bottom 2 teams on the table. So of course, this match against each other would be an excellent opportunity to do something about that. Both Marco and Kelly played a very strong side (almost 100 NSL), but apparently they wanted to keep their boosts or grudges for later stages. Perhaps Kelly expected a grudge from FI, and decided to save her own extras for matches in which chances on a victory should be bigger. Which makes sense of course. Marco however, decided to gamble only on home advantage (plus his own strong team of course), and it turned out that he chose well. With almost 135 EMP, FI’s defense was too strong for the PN attack. Not only did they smother the PN attack, on top of that it was enough for 8 chances ,of which they managed to score 4, and that resulted in a 4-0 victory. Finally, the first points for FI, and although it is not enough to escape the relegation zone with this, they leave the last spot to PN with this victory. For Kelly, it’s time to win some points now!

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 6

Jazz Greats against Catbel Athletic is one of those clashes between 2 Dutch managers. However, with 5 managers already, and Otto (DV) and Martin (EU) rushing faster and faster towards div 1 as well, it’s not as special as it used to be of course ? Still, a match is a match, and you want to win that, so Bart tried to put up a strong defense in order to withstand Ivo’s strong play. However, where CA were kinda unlucky in previous matches, and did not win too many points in spite of good EMP, in this game they were too strong for JG to cope with, and the 0-1 victory in the end was fair. The fact that it was “only” 1-0 is just because of the defending tactics on both sidses, in this case an 8 EMP surplus creates no more than 2 chances.
