DIVISION 2 GAMES

Apocalypse and Fanatics United are the numbers 3 and 4 in div 2, and with that we have a serious top match, as they play against each other this week. Both Les and Denis played a strong team, but besides that, both managers also wanted to save their boosts and grudges for later stages. That made that both AP and FU were (almost) equally strong. It was AP in fact who, solely because of the home advantage, turned out just to be a little stronger, and although that resulted in 2 more chances, the result after 90 minutes was a 12-12. One point each is a fair result in my opinion, as neither team deserved to lose this one.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 6

Fantastic Eleven and Oaklake City are in the bottom half of the table, on positions 7 and 12. Since the nr. 6 team has already 2 points more, Clive has to watch out that not already early in the season, a gap will be created between the top and the bottom half of the table. In order to achieve that, he had to beat OC, the team at the bottom. Sounds easier than it is? In this case in fact it didn’t, as Keith played no more than 85.75 NSL, and that is, generally speaking, not enough to win an away match. As was shown in this case, and with a 16 EMP difference, FE beat OC: 17-7. With that, FE do not only avoid that gap, but in fact they climb to the top half of the league. On the other side, Keith should get worried a little. OC is in need of points.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 6

With 1 point out of the first 2 matches, Defrosted Tunafish and Grammar United are the teams that accompany OC in the relegation zone of div 2. Which made that this match against each other already turned out to be important: the winner of this game would almost certainly escape that relegation zone. Neither Claudio nor Mike decided to play a boost or grudge. With one red card (plus also one yellow card) on each side, that was in balance as well. The difference in NSL wasn’t that big a difference either: 2.25. However, when it came to EMP, the difference was a lot bigger, and you cannot put that on the account of home advantage, no, in this case it meant that DT simply had the better tactics to suit the players he fielded. (Or the other way around of course, if it pleases you ? ) With 2 FB’s and 3 DS’s, you’d say that playing TS would have been better for GU. However on the other hand, by playing CP, at least Mike tries to do something about those 0-0 games. With that in mind, I think it’s a good idea for GU to start building towards a team that can aim for more than just 0-0 results.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 6

Stannington Historical against Deo Volente meant the clash between the nrs. 1 and 2 in div 2, and with that, it was of course the match of the week, at least in division 2. Both teams with 7 points out of 3 matches, so a victory for either team would mean –after we have already seen AP lose points- that they would take the lead on their own! That of course sounds very nice, and must be why Len played his strongest team and a boost on top of that! That, plus the home advantage had to be enough to beat Otto and DV. Well, it was. But not just because of his own strengths, unfortunately. Otto apparently decided to give this one away, rest players, and save energy for other matches. Of course, that resulted in a big win for SH: 24-4, and I am sure that Len will be happy with both the 3 points plus the position on the table, but on the other hand I can imagine that he will also feel that he might as well saved that boost. Nonetheless: important victory for SH, and oh well, DV is only 3 points behind, and are fully rested plus they also got those boosts left, so we will probably see a lot more from Otto and DV later in the season.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 6

The Jazz and Newton Heath are the numbers 5 and 6 on the table, and because they play against each other this week, it would most likely mean that at least one of them is falling towards the bottom half of the table, especially since we’ve already seen FE win their game this week. Robert apparently put more effort into trying to stay in the top half this week (at least it looks like Stewart missed the NMR deadline), and that effort paid off. With no less than a 21-4 victory, NH smashed TJ and with that, it was no more than fair that Robert and NH remain in the top half, while TJ fall back a little. Don’t know what’s behind it, just let’s hope that Stewart will be on top of things now, as TJ sure is a team that can reach at least the playoffs.

SAEFL Season 13 WEEK 6

Smoking Guns and Excelsior Warren are the numbers 8 and 9 on the table, and this match against each other may very well decide for at least the coming weeks, what team will stay in (the slipstream of) the playoff positions, or what team will be in (or has to watch out for ) the relegation zone. But where Simon played his strongest team, Monty apparently –in spite of the home advantage- decided to rest players, and with that he actually gave the game away. On top of that, one of the SG players was shown a red card, so after that the rest was just a formality. EW won big: 8-0, and with the 3 points they stay in the race for the playoff positons. Whereas SG has to watch out for the relegation zone now. But on the other hand: it’s still early in the season, and well, EW is only 2 points ahead, so Monty won’t panic.
